Most typography problems are solved with three decisions: a readable size, a comfortable line length and enough line height.

Most typography problems are solved with three decisions: a readable size, a comfortable line length and enough line height. Get those right and you can stop worrying about the rest for a while.

Size

Start body text at 18px on desktop. Bigger than you think, smaller than a headline.

Measure

Aim for 60–75 characters per line. Long lines tire the eye; short lines break the rhythm.

Leading

1.5 to 1.7 for body text, tighter for headings. Let the text breathe.

Typography is what language looks like.
