Field Notes

About

An independent journal and a small design studio in Lisbon.

A home studio with shelves of books and two monitors by a window

Field Notes started in 2019 as a shared notebook between four friends who kept sending each other the same kind of message: you have to go here, you have to cook this, look how well this is made.

Today it is an independent journal and a small design studio in Lisbon. The journal pays for nothing and the studio pays for everything, which is exactly how we like it: we write about what we love and we take on only the client work we’d be proud to put our name to.

What we believe

Good things take time

We’d rather publish one story we’re proud of than five we’re not.

Write for people

No listicles written for algorithms. Every piece is something we’d send to a friend.

Leave it better

Places, kitchens and codebases — we try to leave them better than we found them.
