An UpdraftPlus alternative where a backup is one file.

UpdraftPlus has to dump MySQL and archive plugins, themes and uploads, in chunks, within your host’s time limits. Here the database is one SQLite file and the code isn’t yours to back up, so a backup is that file plus a zip of uploads — with the same schedule and retention you set in UpdraftPlus.

Replaced by the bundled Backups plugin · Included free with Presscomet

Switching from UpdraftPlus: the short version.

You get

  • Separate database and files schedules, from daily to monthly
  • Retention for each
  • Download, upload and one-click restore with a safety snapshot first
  • Email report

Not included

  • No remote storage (Dropbox, Google Drive, S3, FTP…)
  • No incremental or encrypted backups
  • UpdraftPlus archives can’t be restored here

UpdraftPlus backup stuck or failing?

Big WordPress backups hit PHP time and memory limits, so UpdraftPlus resumes jobs over several runs; when scheduled tasks don’t fire, backups stall.

A SQLite file and an uploads zip are much smaller jobs, and they run as background tasks. Backups and restores show their status on Tools → Backups.

UpdraftPlus alternative: questions

Can I send backups to Google Drive or Dropbox?

No. Download backups from Tools → Backups, or use managed hosting, which takes daily backups for you.

Can I restore my old UpdraftPlus backups?

No — they contain a MySQL dump. Keep them as an archive of the old site; your content comes across through the migration.

How do I move a site to another server?

Download a backup and upload it under Tools → Backups on the new site, then restore.

Can I keep running UpdraftPlus instead?

No. Presscomet doesn’t run PHP, so WordPress plugins can’t be installed. The bundled Backups plugin does the job instead, and the migration imports the settings listed above.

Does Presscomet support WooCommerce?

Not today. Presscomet is for content sites — blogs, magazines, business and documentation sites. If your site sells through WooCommerce, it isn’t a fit yet.
